MIGAS Telecom is a subsidiary company of MIGAS SA whose principal activity is the supply of high rate Internet services. This company was born after obtaining an approval from the Authority of Multisectiorielle Regulation (ARM). MIGAS Telecom carried out the activation of its network on March 6, 2006. This activation follows upon a long period of technical and marketting study. The large band distribution began only in April 2006.

The specificity of MIGAS Telecom is the distribution of Internet in residences. This contributes to improve families welfare. Right now, MIGAS Telecom is based primarily in Arlit where we count about 80 subscribers out of which 99% are domestic. The main customers of MIGAS Télécom are composed of the workers of the mining companies based in Arlit such as Cominak and Somaïr. We hope to double the number of our subscribers in the six (6) coming months.

The network of MIGAS Telecom covers a range of about ten (10) kilomères on line-off-site. The technologies used for the distribution of Internet to subscribers, are: the BLR (Radio Local Loop) and WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) according to the distance from the subscriber to the base station. Right now, our efforts are concentrated in the search for a solution with longer range for a better radio coverage.

Other added value services such as VoIP (Voice Over IP) are in particular envisaged and will very soon start by the creation of IP phone boxes and the installation of IP phones for those of our customers who wish it. Activities such as the videoconference, the video surveillance also form part of the ambitions of MIGAS Télécom. Other activities are described in details in the section “Services”.

In addition to the site of Arlit which is for us the pilot site, we are planning in the coming months to set up new sites in particular at Maradi and Niamey. Currently, we are in a very advanced phase of technical study related to the above sites.

The objective of MIGAS Telecom being the popularization of new technologies of communication and information (NTIC), we hope in the coming years to extend our network to all the areas of Niger. The promoters of MIGAS Telecom being convinced that the future of our youth necessarily passes by the control of these tools, some actions in direction of the school young people were made and others are in the process of be realised in particular the installation of Internet cafes with nonlucrative goal in some schools of Arlit for the session 2006 - 2007. This action will extend in several school establishments from the country progressively with the extention of our network.

MIGAS Télécom offers the following services:

a) High rate Internet service;

This service consists of the supply of Internet in residence, office, or any other place specified by the customer. MIGAS Telecom has currently a band-width of 1Mbps in order to satisfy its customers. We intend to increase this band-width progressively as soon as our customers needs increase. You will find in the section “customers space”, the procedures of subscription to our network. The table below gives the monthly pricing (in F CFA) applied by MIGAS Telecom for Internet services :

b) Sale of computer equipments and accessories;

MIGAS Telecom has a shop of sale of computer equipments and accessories, you will find there new and second hand computers, printers, hard disks, toners, CD ROM/RW, diskettes, CD drivers, motherbords, memories etc.

c) Computer maintenance;

* Maintenance préventive
This concerns the of maintaining the computer set-up (Screen, central processing unit, inverter, printer, scanner,…) in good condition by regular interventions of our technicians.
* Ameliorative maintenance
This involves increasing the computer memory capacity, changing processor ou display card,.. in order to make the computer able to satisfy the requirements of new applications that are very greedy in memories and need high speed processor (example PDF or image files).

* Repairing maintenance
In the event of failure of a component such as motherboard, processor, memory,…, to repair it if possible or to change it.

d) Computer training ;

* Basic training in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet…
The person would be able to work at ease with a text processing (to type its reports and letter), a spreadsheet (to make tables with formulas), presentation (to make a presentation via a video designer), Internet (to be able to send files, to make research,…).
* Advanced training in programming….
This involves training people having already a base in computer science to improve their levels of knowledge to a stage much more thorough. Example: Visual BASIC, C, C++, Java Script, Java…

e) Applications development;

Design of database applications with programs such as: Sql Server, Access et VBA, Foxrpo, Paradox, Oracle …

f) Design, development and hosting websites;

g) Installation and configuration of Local Area Networks (LAN)

LAN setup, training in LAN use and administration of entreprise LAN. Installation, pointing and configuration of VSAT systems.

One of the forces of MIGAS Telecom, is the youth and the ambition of its team. MIGAS Telecom consists of young Engineers and technicians in computer and telecommunications fields. Right now the team of MIGAS Telecom is made of:

  • 3 engineers (Telecoms and Computer science);
  • 2 technicians (Telecoms and Computer science);
  • 2 installers;
  • 1 marketter;
  • 1 labourer

This team will widen as our network grows. In addition, the promoters of MIGAS Telecom grant a place of choice to the staff training. Also, our technicians took part in several conferences and training seminars at national and international level.
